The original concept of the Lions Wilderness Experience belongs to Ted Ohlsen. Who after being blinded in a hunting accident in 1960, became Canada's first blind outfitter in 1965. In 1985 Ted rebuilt his Northern Lights Lodge to make it fully modernized and wheelchair accessible. At that point, Ted conceived the idea of a wilderness camp and challenged Lions Clubs to bring special needs clients to the lodge for a wilderness experience.

Today, the Lions Wilderness Experience, Inc. Is organized and maintained by Lions members from Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with input and encouragement from Ted and the new owner of Northern Lights Lodge, Lion Yvonne.

It is for the benefit of those who would not typically be able to participate in a Northern Saskatchewan wilderness experience.

Guests of Lions Wilderness may be anybody, any age, from any walk of life who cope with personal challenges or special needs and are sponsored by a Lions Club.
